PATRICIA M. (O'BRYAN) FARREN
PATRICIA M. (O'BRYAN) FARREN of East Pittsburgh, on Saturday, November 23, 1996. She was a retired secretary from the Emergency Department of Montifiore Hospital; wife of the late Paul F. Farren; mother of Mary Pat Chizmar and her husband Joseph of S.C., Kathleen Johnson and her husband Earl of North Huntingdon, F. Paul Farren of North Huntingdon and John E. and his wife Mary Alice of Coraopolis; sister of Mary Thompson of FL, Catherine Neff of VA, and Elizabeth Novak of Whitaker; also 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Walter GEVENOSKY, Jr
Walter GEVENOSKY, Jr., 54, of McDonald, died Friday, February 10, 1984, in his home.
A son of Walter and Dominica GEVENOSKY, Sr., he was born April 2, 1929, in Eldersville.
Mr. GEVENOSKY served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a construction worker for the John PANGERSIS, Jr., Construction Co.
He was a member of St. Alphonsus R. C. Church, McDonald; the McDonald Volunteer Fire Department, and the LaSolidarite Association of McDonald.
Surviving are his wife, Geraldine F. TROPECK GEVENOSKY of McDonald; a son, Thomas Edward GEVENOSKY, at home; two daughters, Patricia Ann APEL of Meadville and Shirley Marie ALLISON of Hickory; two brothers, Roman GEVENOSKY of Weirton, W. Va., and Constance GEVENOSKY of Avella; seven sisters, Laura STRUNGA of Burgettstown, Wanda CRUNY of Avella, Helen FITZ of Wickcliffe, Ohio, Jeanie DANA of Avella, Stella CHERENKO of Burgettstown, Felicia DAGNANA of Hickory, and Pauline WOJCIK of Avella; and two grandchildren. Several brothers and sisters are deceased.
Mass of Christian burial was held Monday morning in St. Alphonsus R. C. Church, McDonald, in charge of the Rev. Francis L. PUCCI. Burial was in Robinson's Run cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of the Frank J. Nation Funeral Home, Inc., McDonald.

She was born Feb. 17, 1905, in Passaic, N.Y., daughter of the late Jacob and Mary Dul Serafin. She had lived in Kerrville for 30 years, moving there after her retirement. She was a seamstress in the clothing industry for 35 years in New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lukasiewicz; and two brothers, Walter and John Serafin. Survivors include two daughters, Florence Lukasiewicz Bowers of Kerrville and Rita Lukasiewicz McLaughlin and her husband, Donald, of Erie; five sisters, Angela Serafin of Avoca, Rose Litak of Macungie, and Stella Hadley, Helen Kovach and her husband, Michael, and Irene Pfeiffer, all of Williams Port, N.J.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dusckas Funeral Home East, 2607 Buffalo Road, and attend a prayer service there Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 2635 Buffalo Road. Burial will be at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.

Observer-Reporter (Washington, PA) - September 15, 2006Nellie G. Pivovar Member of St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church Nellie G. Pivovar, 91, of McDonald, died Thursday, September 14, 2006, in Greenery Specialty Care Center, Canonsburg. She was born August 21, 1915, a daughter of James and Sophie Pilarsky Tropeck. Mrs. Pivovar was a homemaker and a member of St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church. Her husband, A. Stanley Pivovar, died January 18, 1990. Surviving are a son, James Pivovar of Paupack; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; two sisters, Helen Hampson and Gerry Gevenosky, both of McDonald; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is her sister, Mary Kulak. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 16, in St. Alphonsus Church, McDonald. Arrangements are being handled by Thomas-Little Funeral Service Inc., 314 West Lincoln Avenue, McDonald. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Heritage Public Library, 52 Fourth Street, McDonald, PA 15057.
Mrs. Catherine FERNAZA SLOVICK
Mrs. Catherine FERNAZA SLOVICK, 63, died suddenly of a heart attack at 1:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 2, 1944, in her home in Sturgeon. She was born October 28, 1871, in Czechoslovakia and came to the United States about 50 years ago and locating in Presto. She had been a resident of Sturgeon about 25 years. Surviving are her husband, John SLOVICK; four daughters: Miss Jennie SLOVICK at home, Margaret, the wife of Joseph KRAFTICIAN of Carnegie, Miss Ann SLOVICK of McDonald, and Alice, the wife of Lucien VOYE of Sturgeon; three sons: Cpl. Anthony SLOVICK, stationed with the army overseas, Frank SLOVICK of Noblestown, and John SLOVICK of Byersdale. There are five grandc hildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning with requiem high mass at 9:00 in St. Patrick's church, Noblestown, intoned by the Rev. Fr. John P. O' REILLY. Burial will be in St. Patrick's cemetery.
Donald TROPECK
Donald TROPECK, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. James TROPECK of R. D. 1, McDonald, near Champion Hill, was found dead early Saturday afternoon, February 9, in the barn near his home. Born September 12, 1932, at R. D. 1, McDonald, he attended the grade school at Champion Hill and was graduated from West Allegheny Joint high school. He attended Business Training College, Pittsburgh, and for the past eighteen monts had been employed at the McDonald A & P store as a checker. He ad been in ill health since November of last year and underwent a chest operation in the early part of December. He had not worked since that time. Surviving besides his parents are seven sisters, Mrs. Ann LUKASIEWIECZ, Mrs. Nellie PIVOVAR, Mrs. Mary KULAK, and Mrs. Jerry GEVNOSKY, all of McDonald; Mrs. Sophie RUBLE, Homewood; Mrs. Frances ARANEC, Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Helen SVIHLA, Gladden Heights; also one brother, John, at home. A brother, James, was killed January 21, 1946, by a train at the Noblestown crossing. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9:00 in St. Patrick's church, Noblestown, in charge of the Rev. Fr. W. T. MULEN. Burial was in the church cemetery.
HELEN TROPEK
HELEN TROPEK, 78, Lima, died at 2:14 p.m. March 8, 2002, at St. Rita's Medical Center. She was born Sept. 22, 1923, in Brownsville, Pa., to Anthony and Mary Spyrka Fortuna, who preceded her in death. On June 16, 1946, she married Joseph R. Tropek, who died in 1983. Mrs. Tropek was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, where she volunteered to count church collections. She was a member of the Lioness Club and volunteered with the Lions Starlight Club for the Blind. She enjoyed ceramics and visiting her children and grandchildren. Survivors include three daughters, Shirley (Donald) Sprague of Plano, Texas, Bette (Michael) Miller of Coral Springs, Fla., and Kathy Kunkleman of Dublin; two brothers, Anthony Fortuna of Brownsville, Pa., and Joseph (Marlene) Fortuna of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; a sister, Anne Kosty of Brownsville, Pa.; and five grandchildren, Matthew Sprague, Timothy Sprague, Joseph Miller, David Miller and Mark Miller. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and John Fortuna. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Charles Catholic Church. The Rev. William J. Rose will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a rosary service will begin at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 616 S. Joseph TROPECK
Joseph TROPECK of R. D. 3, McDonald, died Friday, August 21, 1959. Surviving are four sons, Joseph Jr. of Sturgeon, Emile of Baden, Charles of McDonald, and James of Sturgeon, and a daughter Mrs. Nellie SCOTT of Sturgeon. Funeral services were held August 24 in St. Mary's R.C. Church Cecil, in charge of the Rev. Fr. Piter Shirra. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery, Cecil.
Mrs. Mary TROPECK
Mrs. Mary TROPECK, 68, died at 4:30 am, Tuesday, March 22, 1960, in her home in Champion Hill, Sturgeon. She had been in poor health for the past three months. She was born August 15, 1891, in Austria-Slovakia and came to the United States in 1909. She is survived by her husband, Joseph TROPECK; three sons, Charles TROPECK of R. D. 1, McDonald, Frank TROPECK of New Lexington, Ohio, and John TROPECK of Chicago, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Josephine Conn of Champion Hill; and a brother, Joseph POLENEK of White Cloud, Mich. There are 20 grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Thomas funeral home, Oakdale. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday in St. Patrick's R.C. Church, Noblestown, in charge of the Rev. Fr. Joseph A. DRUMM. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Climax Molybdenum employee enjoyed bowling, fishing Wayne C. Tropeck Sr., 55, of Langeloth, died Sunday, July 27, 2008, in his home. He was born April 4, 1953, in Canonsburg, a son of Charles J. and Pauline Gibson Tropeck of McDonald. Mr. Tropeck was a 1971 graduate of Fort Cherry High School and worked for Climax Molybdenum in Langeloth. He was a member of United Steelworkers of America, Polish Club of Slovan and Owls Club of Joffre. He enjoyed bowling and fishing. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a son, Wayne C. (Holly) Tropeck Jr. of Avella; a daughter, Nicole L. Tropeck of Washington; three brothers, David D. Tropeck of New Cumberland, W.Va., and Terry L. and Robert J. Tropeck, both of McDonald; two grandchildren, Garett and Lilly Tropeck; and three nephews. All services are private and under the direction of Nation Funeral Home Inc., McDonald.
